設計と美意識について

ジェットエンジン業務に携わっていたとき、先輩エンジニアの方がおっしゃった言葉、
「優れたジェットエンジンは、断面図の形が美しい」
が、今でも忘れられません。
機械はまず「機能」、「コスト」が設計では優先され、それを満たした上でなら見た目のデザインをこだわってもいいという風潮があります。
私が携わったジェットエンジンは、航空機に搭載される際はナセルと呼ばれるカバーで覆われて、せいぜい前方のファンブレードと呼ばれる翼部品が見えるだけです。
構造の大半が航空機乗客の目に見えることはないので、設計時に部品の見た目は言及されません。
でも、ベテラン先輩エンジニアの意見を踏まえると、
「見た目をよくすれば、機能・コスト面でも優れた製品になる」
ということになります。
ぼくはライフワークとしてリベラルアーツを学んでおり、その中で多くのデザインに触れるのを楽しんでいます。
そこで「美意識」を鍛えながら、再び機械設計業務に携わったとき、魅力的な製品を産み出す活動につなげたいと考えています。
ABOUT ME
Astro Creator (Yosuke Tanahashi) is a space-obsessed designer and structural engineer at Letara, working on satellite thruster structures while creating AI-driven cosmic visuals. His works have been showcased by galleries worldwide, including billboard features in Times Square (NY) and London. On the “chichi-pui” platform, he has ranked #1 multiple times in the NijiJourney category. Guided by the motto “Miracles come true☆,” he designs at the intersection of beauty and reliability—bringing a sense of space to prints, large panels, and brand visuals. Open to collaborations in key visuals, exhibition prints, and space-related art projects.
